When your kidneys have to compensate for the excess sugar in your blood, it often means you’ll find yourself rushing to the nearest bathroom all day long. The combination of your kidneys working overtime and excessive thirst makes round-the-clock peeing a reality for many people with unmanaged diabetes.
Diabetes is a chronic condition associated with abnormally high levels of sugar (glucose) in the blood. Insulin produced by the pancreas lowers blood glucose. Absence or insufficient production of insulin, or an inability of the body to properly use insulin causes diabetes.
Some women with diabetes wonder if it’s safe to become pregnant. The good news is that you can have a healthy pregnancy after being diagnosed with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. However, it’s important to manage your condition before and during pregnancy to avoid complications.
The Flexitarian Diet, which emphasizes fruits, veggies, whole grains and plant-based protein, is a smart and healthy choice. One panelist noted that this diet is “a nice approach that could work for the whole family.” more
Healthy fats. The healthiest fats are unsaturated fats, which come from fish and plant sources such as olive oil, nuts, and avocados. Omega-3 fatty acids fight inflammation and support brain and heart health. Good sources include salmon, tuna, and flaxseeds.

Low blood sugar is often a side effect of diabetes medicines. If a person takes too much insulin, the blood sugar may become too low. Low blood sugar can also be caused by certain medications, health conditions, or skipping meals.
These drugs rapidly lower blood sugar, but can cause abnormally low blood sugar (called hypoglycemia). In addition, sulfonylureas contain sulfa and should be avoided by patients who are allergic to sulfa.
Carbohydrates make your blood glucose level go up. If you know how much carbohydrates you’ve eaten, you have a good idea what your blood glucose level is going to do. The more carbohydrates you eat, the higher your blood sugar will go up.
For people with diabetes, weight loss success is not only measured by the scale, but also by blood sugar control. “People can put diabetes into remission or reverse its course if they lose weight,” says Osama Hamdy, M.D., Ph.D., medical director of the Obesity Clinical Program at Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston. “In my research, I’ve found that when people lose 7 percent of their body weight, their insulin sensitivity improves by 57 percent. That is better than taking two medications for diabetes at the maximum dose.”
Alternative: DeLaney encourages her patients to avoid all wheat products “due to the increased glycemic response.” She says wheat products contain “irritating phytochemicals such as lectins and glutens.”
Medications for high blood pressure and high cholesterol as well as aspirin can be prescribed with insulin to help the overall health and treatment of diabetes. Since people with diabetes have an increased chance of cardiovascular disease, these drugs are used in combination with other diabetes medications.

Thanks David for the great information. And thanks to all you who post. It is wonderful to get so much personal experiences in one place. I have found that peas have a lot of protein. They also are high in carbs. I eat about of cup of them with broccoli and some tahini & garlic for dinner so the carbs are ok. After going to one of your “here’s” I have decided to add Braggs amino in the mix as well. I am exercising again and have cut way down on the carbs. Weight is coming off which I did not think would happen, as I have been trying to lose with no results. Most important to me is my numbers are coming down. I am not at the place that many of the above folks are, but now have new hope of getting off medication, or at least cutting down. Again Thank you for helping me find a new way to health.
Whether you’re dealing with frequent UTIs or skin infections, undiagnosed diabetes may be to blame. The high blood sugar associated with diabetes can weaken a person’s immune system, making them more susceptible to infection. In more advanced cases of the disease, nerve damage and tissue death can open people up to further infections, often in the skin, and could be a precursor to amputation.
And remember not to let others scare you into thinking the worst. Getting educated will you to understand that a diabetes diagnosis, while serious, is not the end of the world. For some people, lifestyle modifications such as weight loss, healthy eating, and exercise can actually get blood sugars below the diabetes threshold. You can control your diabetes and not let it control you.
Those diagnosed with type 2 diabetes manage their disease through a combination of treatments, including diet control, exercise, self-monitoring of blood glucose, and in some cases, oral drugs or insulin.

In 2006 the FDA approved the first drug in this class called sitagliptin (Januvia). Sitagliptin can be used in combination with certain other medications, but its dose must be adjusted in patients with poor kidney function.

Thanks for the recipes! And yes, it’s me the LADA/1.5 (a.k.a. “Type Weird”) diabetic, weighing in on beans: can’t eat ’em because even in small quantities they make my blood sugar spike. Dang. Oh. And starches? Bread? Sweet potatoes? Fageddaboudit! Thank goodness there are green veggies, eggs, full-fat cheese, plus tofu and nuts. P.S.: Love the blog.
As the insulin in your blood is not working properly, or is not there at all, and your cells are not getting their energy, your body may react by trying to find more energy – food. You will become hungry.
First you must wash the leek with roots. Then you should pour approximately 2 ounces of the bottle with mineral water. Place the leek with the roots in the bottle and let it stand for 24 hours. The next
This one goes hand in hand with feeling dehydrated, Silver says. As elevated blood sugar causes a drop in blood sodium, your body will struggle to stay hydrated even if you’re drinking tons of H20. Rather than retain that water, you end up peeing much of it out, she explains.
